Note: Self-paced leveling courses are offered for students without an undergraduate degree in business. These four corequisite courses—in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Fundamentals of Economics and Corporate Finance—are designed to be completed prior to the corresponding MBA core courses. These courses are taken at an additional cost of $100 per course.

Admissions

What you need to know before applying to this data analytics online graduate program

At FGCU, we've streamlined the admission process to help you get started quickly and easily. Please read the requirements for the MBA online, including what additional materials you need and where you should send them. The requirements include:

Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Transcripts from all previous schools

You must meet the following requirements for admission to the MBA online program:

1. Admission Requirements

  • Earned undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Official copies of all academic transcripts
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of the baccalaureate degree from an AACSB or ABET accredited institution in the last 7 years (or meet the GMAT requirement below)
  • International students must take TOEFL exam with a minimum score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet based)

2. Students with GPA Below 3.0 or an undergraduate degree from any regionally accredited institution not accredited by AACSB or ABET.

Students with a GPA between 2.50 and 2.99 may be considered on a case by case basis if they meet the following:

  • Minimum GMAT of 450
  • Upper level GPA x 200 + GMAT = 1050 (or equivalent GRE score)

Students with GPAs below 3.0 who reach the required 1050 points for admission using the formula, require an approved exception to University minimum requirements.

3. GMAT Waiver

GMAT/GRE requirement will be waived if the applicant holds:

  • A Doctoral or comparable terminal degree OR
  • An undergraduate degree from an AACSB accredited business program with a minimum 3.0 GPA in upper division coursework (last 60 credit hours) within the last 7 years OR
  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the upper division coursework within the last 7 years
  • An undergraduate degree in a STEM program from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (overall) within the last 7 years
  • A graduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (or equivalent foreign institution)

4. GMAT Waiver Based on Work Experience

A GMAT waiver request is on a case-by-case basis with evidence of a minimum 4 years of managerial and budgetary experience. Applicants requesting a GMAT waiver based on work experience must submit the following documents (by the program admissions deadline) to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of the baccalaureate degree
  • Signed Waiver Request Checklist
  • Formal letter (addressed to the MBA Committee) requesting a GMAT waiver. The letter should complement the resume by supporting and elaborating on the managerial and budgetary experience (minimum of four years).
  • Formal resume indicating 4 years of managerial experience in a professional business setting such as economics, finance, accounting, business management, human resources, marketing, information systems, data analytics, etc., which includes experience with maintaining, managing, and/or operating a budget.

Please note - the MBA Committee reserves the right to request verification of the four years of experience from the applicant’s employer.

5. Conditional Admissions

Students who do not the GMAT waiver criteria in #3 or #4, but have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 credit hours of their baccalaureate degree, can be conditionally admitted to the MBA program without submitting a GMAT score. The student will then need to successfully complete two of the following four courses with a B or higher before registering for other classes in the program and to be fully admitted to the program.*

  • QMB 6303 Data Driven Decision Making
  • ACG 6075 Managerial Accounting
  • FIN 6406 Finance Management
  • ECP 6705 Managerial Economics

*Full time students will be required to take two of these four courses in their first semester.

Prior to admission to a graduate program, students may complete a maximum of 9 credit hours of graduate level courses on a non degree seeking basis.

Advance your knowledge in these online MBA, Data Analytics courses

For the MBA with a concentration in Data Analytics online, you must complete 24 credit hours of core courses (including a capstone course) and 9 credit hours of fixed elective courses.

Upon review of transcripts, admitted students without certain completed business courses, will be required to complete a series of up to four interactive self-paced leveling courses from Ivy Software prior to enrolling in certain MBA core courses. The Ivy courses, and the business courses needed (with a grade of C or better) to have them waived are as follows:

  • Financial Accounting Ivy – Financial Accounting or equivalent
  • Fundamentals of Economics Ivy – Microeconomics AND Macroeconomics
  • Managerial Accounting Ivy – Managerial Accounting or equivalent

Explores the process of securing and allocating funds with the business organization with emphasis on relevant financial decision-making and policy aspects.

Everyone leads in the sense of attempting to influence others each day. This course takes an interdisciplinary, evidence-based approach to the theory and practice of effective leadership in a global context. Explores the differences in leadership and management functions, develops skills in communicating organizational vision and strategy, engaging in ethical decision-making processes, leading teams, and influencing individuals in ways that are based on mutual trust and authenticity.

Explores managerial aspects of the marketing of goods and services in a global economy. Analysis of operational and strategic planning problems confronting marketing managers. Topics include consumer behavior, target market identification and selection, product development and commercialization, pricing, distribution. Introduces emerging marketing technologies, and reinforces the importance of ethics and social responsibility in the orderly operation of the market system.

The general objective of this course is to acquaint students with the practice of data-driven decision making. This course exposes students to the tools, techniques and principles that managers employ to translate business and external data (including customer data, financial data, business operations data, industry data etc.) into actionable decisions and policies. The emphasis of the class will be on transformation of data into models using various software applications, and interpretation of the results for making real life business decisions.

This course deals with contemporary issues and methodology topics related to the design, planning, control and improvement of the sustainable supply chain in a global context. Issues in supply chain management are examined with focus on: Global perspective; Integrating sustainability into the supply chain design and execution; World class supply chains; Designing and managing networks, distribution models, sourcing models, and process management.

Addresses the cross-cultural skills necessary for managers to engage in the strategic planning and implementation process from a global perspective. Since the value chains of almost any business today cross international boundaries (whether in the resource or distribution portions of the chain, or in the organization itself), all strategic planning must take into account a global scope. Students learn strategic planning processes that can be applied locally, globally, or both, especially in terms of strategic placement of organizational functions to create maximum value and to expand market opportunities. Students will engage in case analysis and other organizational research that will sharpen their abilities in analytical and critical thinking in terms of business strategy. Topics may include database design; query languages and performance; database operations and administration; security; data quality; data architecture; master data management; meta data management; data warehouse management; data governance; and unstructured data management in the context of enterprise data management.

The goal of the course is to introduce students to the current theories, practices, tools and techniques in data, text and web mining. Because many topics and concepts in “mining” are learned most efficiently through hands-on work with data sets, we will spend time with software analyzing and mining content. The goal is to gain a better understanding of techniques and what is involved in mining projects.

Business leaders must have the ability to collect and interpret information from both internal and external sources to make decisions that affect their company's performance. This course uses projects to convey Business Intelligence (BI) methods of visualization of text mining, and web mining through the use of specific BI tools.
