Please read the requirements for the M.A. Educational Leadership, P-12 Education concentration online program, including what additional materials you need and where you should send them. Undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university
Statement of purpose/essay
GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution

You must meet the following requirements for admission to the M.A. Educational Leadership, P-12 Education concentration online program.

  • Submit graduate application and $30 application fee
  • Official academic transcripts from every college or university attended
  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A minimum 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale in the last 60 semester hours accrued to the undergraduate degree OR a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Two letters of recommendation from working professionals in the field, a current or previous supervisor, or an academic advisor
  • A one-page personal statement about your career and personal goals connected with pursuing a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership with a concentration in P-12 Education
  • For international students: a TOEFL exam with a minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based)

A look at the curriculum for the online P-12 education master’s program

For the M.A. Educational Leadership, P-12 Education concentration online program, you must complete 36 credit hours, which includes two internships (300 hours total).

Courses are focused on the Florida Principal Leadership Standards (FPLS) and prepares students for work as a school administrator. Students in the M.A. P-12 program are not required to take the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) but they may take it on their own if they are seeking Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) certification.

This is a survey course that introduces students to Educational Leadership as a profession. Consideration of organization, control, and support of the educational system. Typically, this is a student's first course in the program in Educational Leadership. Open to all graduate students.

Focuses on critical elements of human resource development in educational settings. Particular emphasis is on staff development and on improving and evaluating instruction.

Enables educational leaders to explore issues that are pertinent to curriculum planning, development, implementation, and evaluation, and to make informed, research-based decisions related to instructional design, teaching, and learning.

Theory and application of statistical procedures to problems in education: descriptive statistics, probability sampling, inferential statistics, interpretation of results, and introduction to computer programming for statistical analysis.

Basic essentials of School Law. A review of court decisions affecting American education with emphasis on Florida state statutes.

Introductory course in curriculum and instruction at the graduate level, basic to all specialized courses in the field. Emphasis on foundations, design, basic concepts, theory, and trends of curriculum from early childhood through secondary levels.

Provides information and skills necessary for administrators and teachers to effectively use the computer and application software to manage information. Students use programs such as word processors, database managers, and spreadsheets to facilitate management tasks at the school and classroom level. In addition, general computer education topics are covered which provide for the computer literacy of school administrators.

Field experiences in school systems for identifying and analyzing educational problems and their solutions. Restricted to admitted students who have successfully completed at least 30 semester hours of their coursework. Permission of faculty in Educational Leadership required.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be prepared to:

  • Describe a department/program within a college or university in relation to institutional culture, organization and governance, mission and goals, and long-term and daily functions.
  • Reflect on the internship experience, the core values and philosophy of educational leadership, and the student’s personal philosophy of educational leadership and/or student affairs.
  • Apply theoretical and conceptual information gained in other coursework to understand and analyze current issues impacting educational leadership in a higher education internship setting and the profession at large.
  • Plan a comprehensive approach to continued professional development.
